Former 49ers head coach Mike Nolan caused quite the stir when he chose to honor his father by wearing a suit on the sidelines — too bad his team couldn’t do the same.

The man known in NFL circles for wearing suits and losing games was fired by the San Francisco 49ers following his team’s 29-17 loss to the New York Giants. Nolan posted a lowly 18-37 in 3 1/2 seasons with the team.

His replacement, former linebackers coach Mike Singletary, doesn’t wear a suit at games, but he wore the No. 50 jersey for a damn good Chicago Bears defense while playing linebacker in the 80s. He also wore a jersey on his first day as the Baltimore Ravens inside linebackers coach, impressing the players with his intensity and sustained athleticism.

Although the team he is inheriting lost four consecutive games before Nolan’s firing, Singletary seems excited about the teams prospects in his first shot as a head coach.

“Right now, the guys realize that we do have something here,” Singletary said. “To what degree, I don’t know, but we do have something special here. It’s a matter of stepping in and being able to bring it together, and that’s something I’ve done all my life.”

Personally, I’m excited to see one of the men who brought my city its 1986 Super Bowl Win, and don’t forget the “Super Bowl Shuffle.” Hopefully Singletary can coach better than he dances.
