Fassel panders for vacant Raiders position

jim114I’ll follow up my Al Davis post-which was far too long ago- with a question: Why would any coach want to go to Oakland after the recent Lane Kiffin-Al Davis saga?

Apparently Jim Fassel was able to answer this question at length, and sent those answers right to the mad maestro himself. Fassel sent Davis a hand-written letter explaining why he wants to be the next head coach of the Oakland Raiders.

Fassel, who last coached for the Giants in 2003, also expressed his respect and admiration for the mad maestro. Now there is much to respect on Davis’ resume; He was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1992, was Oakland’s head coach/general manager at the tender age of 33 and helped forge the AFL-NFL merger.

While his past speak volumes, so do his recent action, which have been covered in detail on the blog in previous posts. The total disregard Davis has shown in the Kiffin firing has to be one of the more shameful moments in his career. Those actions also make one ask why would anyone want to coach under such an unpredicatible man, but that’s a question only Fassel can answer at this point.
